[Saba Sports News] The Philadelphia 76ers held a players-only meeting on Monday night to address their rough start to the season, but Joel Embiid is furious that details of it surfaced.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, veteran guard Kyle Lowry organized the meeting after a loss to the Miami Heat. During the discussion, Tyrese Maxey reportedly called out Embiid, urging him to stop being late “for everything.”
The Sixers lost again on Wednesday, falling 117-111 to the Memphis Grizzlies despite Embiid’s season-best performance of 35 points and 11 rebounds. After the game, Embiid expressed his frustration about the leak, calling the person responsible “a real piece of s–.”
Embiid, however, welcomed Maxey’s criticism, acknowledging he needs to step up. “I need to be better. I need to be perfect, I need to be on point, which I’m going to do,” he said.
With injuries piling up and a dismal 2-12 record, the 76ers have plenty to figure out as they attempt to salvage their season.
