[Saba Sports News] Nikola Jokic logged his 18th triple-double of the 2024-25 season on Sunday as the Nuggets secured a 113-100 win over the Magic. With 40 games left, Jokic needs 24 more triple-doubles to tie teammate Russell Westbrook’s 2016-17 record for most triple-doubles in a season.
At his current pace—18 in 36 games—breaking that mark seems unlikely. Yet, Jokic is poised to rewrite history in other ways.
The Serbian center is on the verge of becoming the first in NBA history to average a 30-point triple-double. He’s currently putting up 30.4 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game. Only guards Oscar Robertson (1961-62) and Westbrook (2016-17) have ever achieved the feat.
Moreover, Jokic could make even more history as the first player to finish a season ranked in the top five across five major statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and 3PT%.
As of Monday, he ranks third in points, third in rebounds, second in assists, tied for fifth in steals, and second in 3PT%, per StatsPerform. No player has ever cracked the top 10 in all five areas for a single season.
Jokic’s dominance is also reflected in his efficiency and game impact. Twelve of his 18 triple-doubles this season were achieved before the fourth quarter—more than any other team’s total, silencing critics who accuse him of stat-padding.
His shooting splits of 56% from the field, 47% from three, and 80% from the line, while attempting over 20 shots per game, are unprecedented in NBA history. Even Wilt Chamberlain, during his record-shattering 50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds per game in 1961-62, didn’t shoot with such precision.
Though Chamberlain’s volume stats will likely remain unmatched, Jokic’s all-around efficiency and impact on winning position his 2024-25 campaign as one of the most remarkable statistical seasons in modern basketball history.
