[Saba Sports News] Recently, Diogo Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, participated in a Father’s Day run in Portugal to commemorate her late husband. The Portuguese forward tragically passed away in a car accident last July. Rute Cardoso, his wife with whom he had three children, took part in the 10-kilometer Father’s Day run in Porto this past Sunday. This marks the first Father’s Day since Jota’s passing. While Father’s Day in most countries falls on June 21st, in Portugal it is celebrated on March 19th. Rute Cardoso wore the number 20 during the race, which was the jersey number her husband wore while playing for Liverpool. She completed the run with a time of 52 minutes and 7 seconds, and later shared a photo of herself crossing the finish line on social media, expressing her deep longing for her husband.
The editor believes that although Rute Cardoso has not yet revealed her follow-up commemorative plans, this long-distance run filled with longing has become a heartwarming example in the sports world of conveying grief, allowing more people to feel the familial affection and nostalgia behind sports.
