[Saba Sports News] According to German media, 31-year-old German goalkeeper Loris Karius has recently joined Bundesliga 2 club Schalke 04 as a free agent, ending a nearly six-month period of unemployment. The former Liverpool goalkeeper stated, “For me, this is an opportunity to re-establish myself at one of the biggest clubs in Germany, possibly regaining prominence, ultimately benefiting both the club and the player.” However, reports indicate that Karius’ salary at Schalke 04 is relatively low, with a base monthly salary of around €25,000, which could increase based on match appearances and win bonuses. By the end of his contract in the summer, Karius could earn approximately €150,000. Within Schalke 04, many players earn more than Karius, with some annual salaries reaching €600,000. Notably, Karius’ wife, Diletta Leotta, a renowned sports presenter for Italy’s DAZN, earns about €1 million annually. Leotta reportedly does not want to give up her job to move to Germany with Karius, leading the couple to face a potential separation.
