[Saba Sports News] Karl-Anthony Towns wasn’t on the court during Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, but his wardrobe still managed to turn heads.
The New York Knicks star, sidelined with a wrist injury, was spotted on the bench wearing a green Philadelphia Eagles-themed sweater. Towns, a known Eagles fan, drew approval from Knicks co-star Jalen Brunson, who also supports the team.
However, not everyone was pleased—especially Knicks fans. Many criticized Towns for representing Philadelphia during an away game at Philly’s Wells Fargo Center.
The choice was particularly contentious given the Eagles’ rivalry with the New York Giants, even though the Giants struggled this season with a 3-14 record.
Apparently, Towns took the backlash to heart. By halftime, he swapped his Eagles sweater for a safer choice: a Knicks polo shirt.
Though Towns is a New Jersey native from Edison—just under 70 miles from Philadelphia—his allegiance to the Eagles remains a point of tension with New York fans.
That tension has only grown as the Eagles thrive in the playoffs, fueled by players who have become a thorn in the side of New York sports.
