[Saba Sports News] Even now, standing on court as both player and coach, former world No. 1 men’s singles shuttler Kento Momota remains committed to being as strong as possible. He doesn’t deliberately restrict his diet; instead, he relies on exercise to burn calories. He runs every day to maintain his physical condition—if he has morning practice he runs 5 km beforehand; if practice is in the afternoon, he runs 10 km. While serving as player-coach for NTT East Japan, Momota also actively takes part in badminton promotion activities and interacts with children. Looking back on his physical management last year, he said he found the weight that suits him best and has successfully maintained it. Momota said he tends to gain weight easily, so before he feels he’s getting heavier he burns it off with training, running, or sauna sessions. In the interview he also revealed a goal: to build an even stronger body—because as a coach he sometimes has to play, and it would look bad if he weren’t up to the task.
The writer believes Momota’s emphasis on burning calories reflects a sport philosophy rooted in passion and gratitude. His persistence has not only made his individual legacy but also become an inspiring symbol for many facing adversity.
