[Saba Sports News] Despite their tumultuous journey with the Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant harbors no ill feelings towards Kyrie Irving, even lauding him as the “most skilled player ever” in basketball.
Durant expressed his admiration for Irving in an interview with Dallas Basketball, saying, “I think he’s the most skilled ever to play the game. There’s nothing he can’t do with a basketball.” He emphasized Irving’s versatility across various basketball settings, be it the NBA, international play, or streetball, praising his talent and work ethic.
The two stars, once Brooklyn teammates, were set to face off in a highly anticipated Western Conference matchup between the Suns and Mavericks. However, Irving missed the game due to a sprained thumb, contributing to Phoenix’s win. Despite the split, both Durant and Irving seem to have moved on positively from their time in Brooklyn.
Their partnership in Brooklyn started in 2019 when Durant left the Warriors to join forces with Irving on the Nets. Initially promising, their time together was marred by several challenges, including issues with head coach Steve Nash and disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly stemming from Irving’s vaccine stance.
Their potential on-court dominance was often overshadowed by off-court controversies and limited playing time together. Eventually, Durant’s move to the Suns left the Nets in a difficult position, marking the end of what many had anticipated would be the NBA’s next great dynasty.
