[Saba Sports News] KL Rahul discusses his return to fitness, the ongoing Australia challenge, how he plans to deal with people requesting World Cup tickets, and his World Cup aspirations.
“I’ve been visible in the Asia Cup, playing all the Super Four games, keeping wickets, and contributing with the bat. So, concerns about my fitness should be put to rest. I’m looking forward to the big two months ahead with the World Cup and the Australia series.
Regarding my preparation for keeping and batting, I knew I’d have to do both when I returned to the team. The physical demands are higher than when I’m just batting, so I worked hard on my fitness. Cricketers anticipate the challenges we’ll face on the field and aim to replicate them in training.”
“As for captaining the first two ODIs while keeping and batting, I appreciate the faith the team management has shown in me over the past two years. Taking on more responsibilities boosts my confidence, and I enjoy it, making cricket more enjoyable.”
“Batting as an opener versus at No.4 or 5 differs mainly in mindset. As an opener, you set the tone, creating the game’s pace, and even when chasing, you have a clear target. In the middle order, you adapt to the situation, responding accordingly. I’ve had the chance to play in the middle order, so I understand the adjustment. Positions 4 and 5 aren’t too dissimilar, but there’s a significant contrast with opening.”
“As for handling ticket requests, I won’t respond to messages for match tickets. It’s not arrogance; I want to stay focused on the game. To family and friends, please refrain from asking for tickets.”
“I was in Bangalore when MS Dhoni hit that memorable six in the 2011 World Cup final. After losing early wickets, we thought the game was gone, but when we won, we celebrated in the busiest part of Bangalore. It was a proud moment for all Indians, and I hope we can recreate it for our nation.”
“Facing Australia is an excellent test before the World Cup. They’re among the favorites, with impactful players we know from the IPL. They’re familiar with Indian pitches and conditions, so this series will showcase each team’s skills. I’m excited about the challenge; it’s the best way to prepare for the World Cup.”
