[Saba Sports News] Klay Thompson is moving on from his Golden State Warriors era and his No. 11 jersey.
The Dallas Mavericks announced on Saturday that Thompson will wear No. 31 next season. This follows Dallas acquiring the five-time All-Star in a modest-money sign-and-trade with the Warriors. No. 31 has been worn by nine other Mavs players, including Nick Van Exel and Jason Terry, who won a Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2009 and an NBA title in 2011.
Thompson, who has famously worn No. 11 throughout his career, couldn’t keep it with the Mavs since it’s currently worn by Kyrie Irving. In college at Washington State, Thompson wore No. 1, making No. 31 a significant change for him. This shift was hinted at in his emotional farewell post to Warriors fans.
