The two sides signed a cooperation agreement at an event held at the Palauet de Barcelona, aiming to jointly promote anti-discrimination campaigns in high-impact public spaces such as football stadiums. Earlier, during a match between Spain and Egypt, songs targeting Muslims were heard inside the stadium. Berni Álvarez, Minister of Sport of Catalonia, and Jose Montero, a representative of La Liga, signed the cooperation agreement to boost the reach of campaigns such as “La Liga Contra el Bullying” (La Liga Anti-Bullying) and “La Liga Contra el Odio” (La Liga Anti-Hate). Berni Álvarez stressed that recent racist incidents mark a turning point in the sports agenda: “We need to carry out extensive educational work and also act very decisively to prevent the situation from worsening further. Clearly, we have reached a turning point, and this event is being held at a time when everyone is paying attention to this issue.”
