[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for a new era once LeBron James retires, and they reportedly have a star replacement in mind: Luka Doncic.
On “The Mismatch,” The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor mentioned that the Lakers are eyeing Doncic as their dream target for the future. O’Connor noted, “I’ve reported that the Lakers have their sights set on Luka in the future. We’ll see if that works out, but with Dallas making the Finals and improving their supporting cast, it may not be realistic.”
Despite the Lakers’ long-term focus, including holding onto future picks, the likelihood of landing Doncic remains uncertain. The Mavericks are coming off an NBA Finals appearance and made the conference finals two seasons prior, putting them in a strong position.
Doncic is currently in the middle of a 5-year, $215 million contract with a player option for 2026-2027 and has been a first-team All-NBA selection for five consecutive seasons.
