[Saba Sports News] Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic recently appeared on the Mind the Game podcast. While the full episode is set to air on Sunday, a preview clip was shared Saturday on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, Doncic spoke with NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash about his early passion for basketball.
“I wasn’t really good at any other sports,” Doncic told Nash. “Except soccer — not like you — but I played a lot: tennis, soccer, basketball. Even volleyball. I just loved doing sports. After school, I was always outside.”
Doncic said that while he played multiple sports growing up, basketball became his main focus. When asked if his father, a former professional basketball player, influenced that passion, Doncic didn’t hesitate.
“Yeah, for sure,” he replied. “I went to his games, started as a ball boy — a lot of EuroLeague games. I was a ball boy for Olympia. Before games, halftime, after games — I’d be out there shooting.”
Doncic has essentially grown up around the game. His lifelong love for basketball has clearly helped shape him into one of the NBA’s brightest stars. Now the Lakers are working to build a championship contender around him and LeBron James in Los Angeles.
Doncic, already one of the faces of LA sports, is aiming to bring the Lakers back to the NBA Finals in the near future. No matter what the future holds, his deep-rooted passion for the game — fostered since childhood — remains unwavering.
