[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks have received relatively positive news regarding Julius Randle’s injury. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that the Knicks are optimistic about Randle’s recovery, expecting it to be a matter of weeks rather than months. Following an MRI conducted on Saturday night, there’s hope that Randle can avoid undergoing surgery.
The injury occurred during Saturday’s game against the Miami Heat, where Randle, a two-time All-NBA player, injured his right shoulder after an awkward fall during a shot attempt in the fourth quarter.
Randle, 29, is a key player for the Knicks, being their top scorer next to Jalen Brunson, with an average of 24.0 points per game this season. He’s also known for his robust rebounding and effective secondary playmaking. Remarkably durable, Randle has previously resisted the team’s load management efforts.Fortunately for Randle, who is left-handed, the injury is to his non-dominant shoulder.
Additionally, the upcoming All-Star break starting February 14 provides a week-long respite for the Knicks, which could aid in his recovery. Although the Knicks, currently at 29-17, will miss Randle’s presence in the next few games, possibly leading to lineup adjustments like starting Josh Hart or repositioning OG Anunoby, the most severe outcomes appear to have been averted.
