[Saba Sports News] LeBron James is shutting down a recent report about his move to the Lakers.
In a piece by ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, it was suggested that “part of the reason” James joined the Lakers in 2018 was his admiration for how the team treated Kobe Bryant in his final seasons.
James took to X on Saturday to deny that claim.
“I came to the Lakers to help Jeanie Buss win championships, bring the Spark back to the Lakers, and see my family thrive in SoCal,” he wrote, adding a cap emoji. “Why would I make a decision based on how someone else was treated? Mama always said, ‘Stay out of grown folks’ business.'”
While the report only suggested that Bryant’s treatment was part of the reason, James made it clear that his decision had nothing to do with that.
His reasons likely included personal goals, like pursuing championships and expanding his Hollywood ventures. But the way the Lakers handled Bryant, a player with a very different career path, doesn’t seem to have factored in.
