[Saba Sports News] Team USA basketball is gearing up with a strong roster for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. The official Twitter account of USA Basketball announced a 41-man finalist pool, featuring prominent players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Joel Embiid.
LeBron James, who last represented Team USA in 2012, is set to make a remarkable return, highlighting his career longevity. He had expressed interest in international play again after Team USA’s 2023 FIBA World Cup exit.
Steph Curry and Kawhi Leonard, notable for not yet participating in the Olympics, are also in the pool. Curry played for Team USA during their gold medal triumphs in the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Championships, while Leonard hasn’t been involved in international tournaments since turning professional.
Kevin Durant, a forward for the Phoenix Suns, is a veteran of Team USA’s last two Olympic squads in 2016 and 2020 and has claimed three consecutive gold medals starting in 2012.
Draymond Green, along with five other players from the Tokyo team, was notably absent from the 2024 shortlist. Green had been part of both the 2016 and 2020 Olympic teams.
Joel Embiid, who had been contemplating which country to represent, chose Team USA. The finalist pool is a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talents like Tyrese Haliburton, Chet Holmgren, Scottie Barnes, and Anthony Edwards. Additionally, the list features an NBA All-Star who has previously voiced dissatisfaction about being overlooked by Team USA.
