As the three-time Olympic silver medalist in men’s singles, Lee Chong Wei is known as the “un-crowned king” of world badminton due to his tragic fate. His legendary rivalry with Lin Dan remains a topic of discussion among fans. In 2018, Lee Chong Wei was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer and underwent surgery in Taipei, Taiwan. According to Malaysian media reports, the cost of his treatment amounted to $1 million. After recovering from cancer, Lee Chong Wei attempted to return to training but had to retire due to his body being unable to handle intense workouts, thus missing out on his fifth Olympic appearance. In 2022, the third year since his recovery from illness, his third child with his wife, Wong Mew Choo, was born.
