[Saba Sports News] After the conclusion of the Thomas & Uber Cup, several top Malaysian badminton singles players have opted to take a break and withdrawn from this week’s Thailand Open, a Super 500-level tournament. This squad adjustment has allowed independent players including Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei to secure entry as replacements.
It is reported that HOH Justin, LETSHANAA A Karupathevan, WONG Ling Ching and others, who had already qualified for the main draw of the Thailand Badminton Open, have decided to pull out. Regarding this, Kenneth Jonassen, men’s singles head coach of the Malaysian national badminton team, revealed that the core reason for the players’ withdrawal is the packed international competition calendar. Lacking sufficient time for rest and preparation, the players need to select tournaments strategically and focus on key upcoming events to maintain training quality and competitive form.
Currently, the withdrawn players are fully preparing for the Malaysia Badminton Masters, which will be held from May 19 to 24. Lee Zii Jia, currently ranked 67th in the world, was originally only a reserve player. Thanks to the collective withdrawal of eight men’s singles competitors, he has successfully entered the qualifying round.
It is believed that Lee Zii Jia’s entry into the Thailand Badminton Open as a substitute not only reflects his professional resilience, but also mirrors his tough journey of breaking through the dual predicaments of injury and fierce competition.
