[Saba Sports News] The first event of the 2025 BWF World Tour will be the Super 1000 series Malaysia Badminton Open, which will be held from January 7 to 12. However, local star Lee Zii Jia announced bad news on January 3, stating that he will withdraw due to an injury that has not fully healed. Lee’s team stated in a press release that he suffered a right ankle ligament injury during last year’s BWF Finals and has confirmed he will not participate in the 2025 Malaysia Badminton Open. It remains uncertain whether he will compete in the Super 750 India Badminton Open and Super 500 Indonesia Masters, as it depends on whether he fully recovers. According to the draw for the 2025 Malaysia Badminton Open released last week, Lee Zii Jia was seeded sixth in men’s singles and was set to face Taiwanese player Su Li-Yang in the first round. Lee Zii Jia had an impressive performance last year, winning a bronze medal in men’s singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking his first Olympic medal in his career. In the World Tour, he secured the men’s singles titles at the Thailand Badminton Open and Australia Badminton Open, while finishing as the runner-up at the Malaysia Masters.
