[Saba Sports News] According to German media reports, at the “Future of Finance” Bloomberg event in Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Caro called for an international salary cap for football players. He also warned that the financial advantage of the Premier League could weaken the appeal of the UEFA Champions League. Fernando Caro stated: “Normally, I am against all kinds of regulations, but I think we have to fight for this. This summer, we tried to sign a player, but in the end, a newly promoted Premier League team could offer a higher transfer fee and provide a higher salary than us, a top-four Bundesliga team. The Premier League has more money and resources than any other country, which is not good for us, absolutely not good.” Although UEFA has implemented Financial Fair Play rules to restrict club spending based on revenue, the financial gap between the Premier League and other European leagues is widening. According to a UEFA report, the Premier League generated over €7.1 billion in cumulative revenue for the 2023-2024 season, nearly double the Bundesliga’s revenue (€3.6 billion) during the same period.
