[Saba Sports News] Caitlin Clark’s list of critics appears to be growing — and now even local news is joining in.
On Saturday, Clark and the Indiana Fever fell just short in a 90-88 thriller against the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The game ended in controversy after Clark lost the ball on the final possession under tight defense from Liberty guard Natasha Cloud. Believing she was fouled, Clark confronted the referee with a profane five-word outburst, which was caught on camera.
Later that evening, CBS News in New York recapped the game — and used the opportunity to take a petty jab at the WNBA rookie.
Before rolling highlights of the Fever-Liberty matchup, the sports anchor opened with a monologue about how “flopping has been a part of the modern game of basketball for years.”
When the clip of Clark’s final possession aired, the anchor doubled down with a snarky line,
“Clark tried to sell it like she got hit by a sniper, but there was no foul.”
The tongue-in-cheek dig added fuel to the ongoing debate about whether Clark was truly fouled on the play. She’s been accused of flopping before — even by fellow WNBA star Brittney Griner, who recently criticized her playing style and drew backlash over her choice of words.
Still, this particular swipe seemed less about Clark personally and more about classic New York sports pettiness. As Knicks fans have proven time and again, nobody dishes it out quite like the Empire State.
