[Saba Sports News] Luka Doncic wasn’t the issue for the Dallas Mavericks in their Game 2 NBA Finals loss to the Boston Celtics, but he was quick to take the blame.
The Mavericks are now down 2-0 in the series after losing 105-98 at TD Garden on Sunday night. Doncic was a standout for Dallas, recording a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, though he also had eight turnovers and made only 4 of 8 free throw attempts.
After the game, he acknowledged these shortcomings, saying, “My turnovers and missed free throws cost us the game. I’ve got to do way better in those two categories.”
While it’s unclear if fewer turnovers or more successful free throws would have changed the outcome, Doncic’s 23 points in the first half were crucial in keeping Dallas competitive.
However, his performance dipped in the second half, raising questions about his health.
The main issue for the Mavericks in both games has been the lack of support for Doncic. Kyrie Irving, who excelled in the Western Conference Finals, is shooting just 31.5% from the field in the series and has missed all eight of his 3-point attempts. Despite Irving’s claims that Celtics fans aren’t affecting him, his performance suggests otherwise.
The Mavericks will host Game 3 on Wednesday night, which is a must-win as no team has ever overcome a 3-0 series deficit in the NBA playoffs.
