[Saba Sports News] According to new medical regulations released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) last November, players are not allowed to receive treatment during matches and must wait for the interval to do so. Additionally, cold spray provided by the tournament doctor is no longer permitted; players must rely on their own spray or medical staff during breaks to manage injuries, and even tightening bandages can only be done during the interval. In fact, Malaysian star Shevon Jemie Lai’s husband and partner Goh Soon Huat became one of the victims of this new regulation at the BWF World Tour Finals held in Hangzhou last month. In response, Lai expressed that from a medical standpoint, this is not a good idea, as she has seen many players get injured on the court without timely treatment. She suggested that while BWF may think some players exploit loopholes to delay matches, it breaks the hearts of genuinely injured players who give their all on the court. She hopes the BWF will reassess this rule and allow players to receive treatment when needed.
