[Saba Sports News] According to the latest reports from English media, Manchester City proposed a motion during a recent Premier League meeting, requesting that the start of the new season be postponed. The reason cited was that the team will be participating in the new Club World Cup. It is reported that both Manchester City and Chelsea will take part in the Club World Cup held in the USA this summer, with the final of the tournament scheduled just 34 days before the new Premier League season begins on August 16, and only 27 days before the Community Shield match. This would significantly shorten the players’ rest period. The proposal was met with opposition from the other 19 teams, with some even stating after the meeting, “Teams are not obligated to participate in the Club World Cup, and taking part in this event can yield substantial financial returns.” It is believed that such proposals are unlikely to receive support from other teams, as delaying the start would require adjustments to their preparation plans, potentially impacting their early-season performance. Additionally, Premier League broadcasting and commercial sponsorship contracts are usually closely tied to the schedule, and any alterations could harm these interests.
