[Saba Sports News] Luka Doncic has been one of the NBA’s best players since entering the league in 2018, but the Dallas Mavericks appear determined to paint a different picture of his future.
Since trading Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month, the Mavericks have faced relentless criticism.
In exchange, Dallas landed Anthony Davis, a move that looked even worse when the 32-year-old big man suffered an injury in his debut and hasn’t played since. Despite that, the Mavs seem more focused on warning of an impending “catastrophe” concerning Doncic’s health.
In a report published Wednesday, Sam Amick of The Athletic revealed that some within the Mavericks organization harbored major concerns about Doncic toward the end of his time in Dallas.
His fondness for beer and hookah reportedly unsettled team officials, and there’s a belief that his health history could lead to a significant breakdown in the next five years.
While Doncic has battled various nagging injuries—most recently a calf strain that sidelined him before the trade—he has yet to suffer a career-altering setback.
Over his seven seasons, he has played at least 61 games each year, despite dealing with ankle, knee, and other minor issues. Concerns about his conditioning aren’t new, as his weight fluctuations have drawn scrutiny, though they haven’t stopped him from performing at an elite level.
