[Saba Sports News] After missing out on the championship due to a driveshaft failure in the recently concluded Nürburgring 24 Hours race, four-time F1 World Champion Max Verstappen openly announced his plan to return to this iconic track in 2027 to make up for the regret of losing the title.
In his debut endurance race, Verstappen and his teammates dominated the race in their No.3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and built a massive lead. Unfortunately, mechanical issues struck in the final four hours, forcing them to finish only 38th. To cheer up his disappointed teammates, Verstappen posted encouraging words on social media, stating “We will be back”. He also told the media that he will definitely take on the Nordschleife again next year if his schedule permits, for it is an extremely challenging circuit. He added that he thoroughly enjoyed the team-oriented endurance racing format.
In my opinion, Verstappen has not officially confirmed his participation in the 2027 Nürburgring 24 Hours. Nevertheless, given his enthusiasm for cross-category racing and previous remarks, his comeback is highly likely, which serves as a clear signal of his intention to stage a strong return.
