At the previous Miami Grand Prix, McLaren delivered flawless pit-wall execution, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri sealing second and third place respectively in the main race, claiming the team’s first double podium of the new season.
Andrea Stella, McLaren team principal, confirmed that the valuable development window created by the cancelled Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix has paid off, and the pace shown in Miami is highly encouraging. Furthermore, the team will introduce another round of substantial car upgrades at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.
When analysing the current competitive landscape in the paddock, Stella stated that the lap time gap between Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren has narrowed to almost nothing. Amid such overall parity, race results are no longer decided by sheer car dominance, but instead hinge on weekend operational efficiency, fine-tuning and adaptability to track conditions.
In my opinion, in Formula 1, teams must never get complacent over results from a single race. Racing cars need to pass all-round tests across various track types including street circuits, high-temperature and low-temperature venues, as well as high-speed and low-speed layouts.
