[Saba Sports News] Mohammed Shami, India’s leading fast bowler, is set to travel to England for expert consultation on his ankle injury, which has sidelined him since the ODI World Cup 2023. During the World Cup, Shami, despite his injury, emerged as the top wicket-taker with 24 wickets in just seven matches.
Reports indicate that Shami’s recovery is progressing well, with the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) medical team expressing satisfaction with his improvement. The 33-year-old, who missed the Test series against South Africa, had aimed to return for the upcoming Test series against England. However, his recovery wasn’t quick enough, leading to his exclusion from the squad for the first two Tests against England. Shami is scheduled to leave for London soon, accompanied by Nitin Patel, head of the NCA’s Sports Science department.
Additionally, the BCCI may send wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant to London for his rehabilitation. Pant, 26, has been recuperating at the NCA following a severe car accident on December 30, 2022, and is making significant progress. He is expected to return during the IPL 2024.
Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw, currently nursing a knee injury, is also undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. Shaw, who injured himself in August 2023 while playing in the Royal London One Day Cup, is anticipated to take another month to return to competitive cricket. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is hopeful for his comeback during the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy.
