[Saba Sports News] One of the NBA’s premier defensive guards may have played his last game of the 2024-25 season.
The Orlando Magic announced Friday that Jalen Suggs has been diagnosed with a trochlea injury in his left knee and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Suggs, 23, has struggled with injuries all season, appearing in just 35 of Orlando’s 61 games.
He first went down with a back issue in early January, returned for a single game later that month, and has since missed another full month due to a quad injury. According to the team, Suggs was experiencing discomfort during his rehab process, prompting further evaluation.
An MRI ultimately revealed the trochlea injury.
The former Gonzaga standout was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and made the All-Defensive Second Team last season.
He had been posting career-best numbers this year, averaging 16.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game.
The timeline for Suggs’ return remains uncertain, but with just six weeks left in the regular season, his absence could stretch through the remainder of the year.
The Magic, currently 29-32 and seventh in the Eastern Conference, appear to be fighting for a play-in spot—though a string of injuries has certainly hampered their potential.
