[Saba Sports News] Fans have experienced a whirlwind of emotions amid the NBA’s media rights negotiations. Despite optimism for TNT/Turner Sports retaining their broadcast rights, the league announced it will move forward with Amazon’s offer.
“Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent proposal did not match Amazon Prime Video’s terms, leading us to a long-term arrangement with Amazon,” the NBA stated. “Our goal has been to maximize reach and accessibility for fans. The new deal with Amazon complements our existing agreements with Disney and NBCUniversal. All partners are committed to promoting the league and enhancing the fan experience.”
Experts anticipated mixed reactions from fans, but the response has been mostly negative. Fans were particularly upset about the potential end of the legendary ‘Inside the NBA’ show with Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith, which has been a staple of NBA broadcasts.
The NBA’s decision came after months of speculation when Amazon made a significant bid for the media rights. Warner Bros. Discovery nearly matched the offer but ultimately could not outbid Amazon. Commissioner Adam Silver decided to end the long-standing arrangement with TNT.
As the 2024-25 season marks the end of an era, concerns remain about how fans will perceive the changes. ‘Inside the NBA’ was a beloved part of the NBA viewing experience, and fans wonder how Amazon will match its entertainment quality. This shift could alter the culture and vibe of NBA broadcasts built over decades.
Regardless, the 2024-25 season will be the last under the familiar TNT coverage, marking a significant transition in basketball media.
