[Saba Sports News] Kyle Filipowski unexpectedly fell to the second round of the NBA Draft, with an intriguing detail possibly contributing to his drop.
In Thursday’s episode of “The Lowe Post” podcast, Zach Lowe discussed Filipowski’s slide with ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathon Givony. Givony mentioned several factors, including concerns about Filipowski’s girlfriend.
“People tell me there were question marks about the interviews. They said he was nervous. He didn’t make shots at the pro day. What’s going on with his girlfriend?” Givony shared, noting these questions surrounding Filipowski. Givony dismissed these issues as “nonsense” and encouraged teams to draft him.
Two of Filipowski’s family members responded via social media. His brother, Daniel, claimed Kyle’s girlfriend, Caitlin Hutchison, forced him to cut off contact with his family. Kyle’s mother alleged that Hutchison, who is 28, planned to get engaged while Kyle was still in high school.
Filipowski, a 7-foot center from New York, is 20 years old and played two seasons at Duke, averaging 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game last season. Hutchison attended the University of Alabama from 2015-2018, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Filipowski was drafted No. 32 overall by the Utah Jazz.
