[Saba Sports News] According to UK media reports, the trophy for the new Club World Cup will bear the name of current FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The new Club World Cup will take place next summer in the United States, and the trophy made its debut this Thursday, featuring the engraving “Founding Chairman Gianni Infantino.” The inscription is in 13 languages, including Ancient Greek and Latin. Reports state that while Infantino was not involved in the design of the trophy, the design must be approved by him. FIFA also released a four-minute interview with Infantino, in which he described this Club World Cup as a “bold experiment in format,” even though it replicates the structure of the World Cups from 1998 to 2022 (32 teams divided into 8 groups, each with 4 teams, followed by four knockout rounds). When the trophy was first unveiled, Infantino stated in a release: “The trophy must be innovative, inclusive, groundbreaking, and truly global, just like this tournament. The FIFA Club World Cup is equivalent to our flagship event, the World Cup, and its inception signifies a bright future for football.” It remains to be seen what fans think of this.
