[Saba Sports News] According to Brazilian media reports, Neymar has won the lawsuit over alleged environmental damage and is therefore not required to pay 2.6 million euros in compensation. In 2023, Neymar had an artificial lake dug at his luxury mansion in Brazil. The local government deemed this an act of environmental damage and fined him 16 million Brazilian reais (approximately 2.6 million euros). Neymar subsequently filed an appeal, and the fine was suspended. This week, a court in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, issued a ruling revoking the fine previously imposed on Neymar by the local government. The judge found no evidence that the construction of the artificial lake had caused environmental harm, and that Neymar did not need an environmental permit issued in advance by the municipal government. Furthermore, the judge ruled that the charges against Neymar were “based entirely on anonymous photos and videos provided in October 2019.”
The editor believes that Neymar’s artificial lake project actually did not require any environmental permit. The local government’s investigation was launched due to the massive media attention surrounding the case, entirely because it involved a world-famous football star.
