[Saba Sports News] One rival team is poised to challenge the New York Knicks for OG Anunoby this summer. Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reported that the Philadelphia 76ers view Anunoby as a potential offseason target. If the 76ers cannot land their top choice, Paul George of the LA Clippers, Anunoby could be their Plan B. The 76ers might make a substantial offer to Anunoby, possibly forcing the Knicks to match.
Philadelphia, a rival in the Atlantic Division, would be an intriguing destination for Anunoby. The 76ers are coached by Nick Nurse, who previously coached Anunoby on the Toronto Raptors, and with whom Anunoby won the 2019 NBA title. The 76ers also have Kyle Lowry, Anunoby’s former Raptors teammate, though Lowry is a free agent this summer.
While the Knicks are likely to retain Anunoby, having invested heavily in acquiring him and holding his Bird rights (allowing them to offer up to $245 million over five years), the 76ers could still drive up the price or pursue Anunoby themselves.
