[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks might be frustrating their key impending free agent.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN discussed OG Anunoby’s situation on “Get Up” this week, hinting that Anunoby is unhappy with the Knicks’ contract negotiations.
“Most people believe that Anunoby will stay with New York,” Windhorst said. “But there have been indications that he may want to test the market because he’s not thrilled with what the Knicks [are offering].”
Anunoby, who joined the Knicks in a trade last December, averaged 14.1 points per game and shot 39.8 percent from three, also becoming the team’s best and most versatile defender.
The Knicks can offer the 26-year-old up to $245 million over five years, but his injury history and other key free agents might make them hesitant to commit that much. However, lowballing Anunoby could risk alienating him. If negotiations with the Knicks fall apart, several Eastern Conference rivals will likely be interested in Anunoby.
