[Saba Sports News] The Indiana Pacers’ rapid rise has overshadowed the absence of young star Bennedict Mathurin, who missed their entire playoff run due to a torn right labrum.
Now healthy, Mathurin made a powerful statement in Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 25 points in just 19 minutes on efficient shooting. His return prompted teammate Myles Turner to hype up his comeback, declaring on X, “League Ain’t Ready ♨️.”
Despite an injury-shortened 2023-24 season, Mathurin showed improved efficiency, though he got to the foul line less than in his rookie year.
The Pacers traded Buddy Hield to create more opportunities for Mathurin, but now he may initially come off the bench behind Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith, who shined in his absence.
Playing a featured role off the bench might suit Mathurin’s skillset, allowing him to create his own offense while continuing to grow in his third season.
