[Saba Sports News] During a critical meeting in Bali, Indonesia, it was agreed that Pakistan will assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2025. The Pakistani delegation, led by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Acting Chairman and Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, along with Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, played a proactive role in the discussions. Khawar notably voiced objections at various points during the meeting, indicating Pakistan’s active engagement in the proceedings.
The President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shami Silva, proposed extending Jay Shah’s current ACC presidency for an additional year. Consequently, it has been settled that a representative from the PCB will take on the ACC presidency for a two-year term starting January 2025.
Issues were also raised regarding the delay in distributing the minutes from the previous meeting. Despite Salman Naseer’s letter addressing the delay, there was no immediate response. Khawar emphasized the importance of promptly sharing the minutes, which had only been sent out three days prior to the Bali meeting.
In a significant development, Jay Shah will continue as the ACC president for an additional year, a decision facilitated by the willingness of Sri Lanka Cricket to postpone its turn to hold the presidency. This agreement was reached with the consensus of the member countries. Following the extension of Shah’s presidency, a PCB leader is slated to succeed him, marking a new chapter for the ACC leadership in 2025.
