[Saba Sports News] Paul George is reportedly seeking a larger contract from the Los Angeles Clippers than what they are prepared to offer, potentially setting the stage for a trade request. While George desires a four-year contract, the Clippers have proposed a deal similar to Kawhi Leonard’s three-year, $152.4 million extension signed in January. According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, a likely scenario may see George opting into his $48.8 million player option for the 2024-25 season to leverage a trade.
Stein notes that after months of unsuccessful contract talks between George and the Clippers, rival teams have started exploring trade possibilities for the nine-time All-Star. This situation mirrors James Harden’s strategy with the Houston Rockets last year, where Harden exercised his option and used it as leverage to facilitate a trade when a long-term deal wasn’t forthcoming.
Furthermore, an unnamed Eastern Conference star has expressed interest in teaming up with George, though the trade market for the 34-year-old remains uncertain. Despite George’s solid performance this season, averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists over 74 games, his extensive injury history and high salary demands could deter potential trade partners.
