[Saba Sports News] According to Italian media, Marseille was able to sign Benjamin Pavard thanks to Adrien Rabiot’s transfer to AC Milan. Pavard and his representatives only learned of the opportunity to join Marseille on the final day of the summer transfer window, although clubs may have been negotiating earlier, and Marseille had likely been monitoring him for some time. For Pavard, this was a satisfactory destination, but he has not closed the door on a return to Inter Milan. Pavard gladly accepted Marseille’s offer because there he can be a key starter in the Champions League, showcase himself in his home league to convince Didier Deschamps to take him to the World Cup, and also play for a club symbolic to the French. However, his affection for Inter remains unchanged. This deal was only able to be completed before the transfer deadline due to the sale of Rabiot to AC Milan. Marseille has a salary cap structure and cannot afford too many high-salary players. Simply put, it was Rabiot’s departure that gave Marseille the financial flexibility to invest in Pavard and offer him a substantial salary.
