[Saba Sports News] During a review meeting convened by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the previous administration was held responsible for the injuries sustained by players during the recent Asia Cup.
Key figures including PCB Chairman Management Committee Zaka Ashraf, head coach Mickey Arthur, captain Babar Azam, vice-captain Shadab Khan, and former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez, gathered to evaluate the performance of the Pakistan Men’s cricket team in the ACC Asia Cup 2023.
The meeting involved comprehensive discussions, with the entire national coaching staff, comprising head coach Grant Bradburn, batting coach Andrew Puttick, and bowling coach Morne Morkel, providing insights into the team’s recent performance. Dr. Sohail Saleem contributed insights on player injuries and rehabilitation plans.
The analysis covered various aspects, including team performance, player fitness, and future strategies to enhance performance. One significant outcome of the meeting was the recognition of the need for a more effective approach and strategy concerning player workload management, as well as the importance of building a stronger bench.
Zaka Ashraf, Chairman Management Committee, underscored the significance of open discussions and consensus-building. He emphasized, “Discussion revealed that the previous management had allowed a lot of players to participate in league cricket, leading to fatigue ahead of their national duties. However, moving forward, we have agreed to adopt a proactive approach to manage player workloads and prioritize national duty.”
Ashraf expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “Our team is brimming with talent, and we believe they can compete and excel at the highest level. We have world-class batsmen and bowlers, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary support and resources to ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming mega event.”
Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, who could not attend the meeting due to a medical emergency, later met with Zaka Ashraf to provide his input. Following the review, Inzamam finalized the Pakistan squad for the ICC World Cup, with the official announcement scheduled for a press conference at 11:15 a.m. at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Friday morning.
