[Saba Sports News] The New Orleans Pelicans may have finally run out of patience with Zion Williamson after years of off-court drama and internal issues.
According to Shamit Dua of WDSU, the team’s ownership is reportedly “livid” over Williamson’s latest controversy, with one source describing the situation as “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
This is just the latest in a long line of troubling incidents involving the former No. 1 pick, whose personal life has frequently made headlines—most infamously during a public feud with an adult film star in 2023.
On the court, things haven’t been much smoother. Williamson has dealt with persistent concerns over his diet, conditioning, and injuries. He was suspended earlier this year for violating team policy, and later criticized the organization’s handling of his health.
Despite having three years and $126 million left on his deal, the contract is loaded with team protections, suggesting New Orleans built in an exit strategy.
Following the team’s 21-61 finish and the firing of lead executive David Griffin, major changes appear imminent. Williamson—and even head coach Willie Green—may not be far behind.
