[Saba Sports News] The director of coaching for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Rexy Mainaky, announced the official recruitment of coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, known as “Fire Dragon,” aiming to unleash his “magic” again to lead Malaysian players to glory in international competitions. The ultimate goal includes helping Malaysia secure a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. According to Rexy, when he approached Herry, there was no hesitation in accepting the position, likely because he also wants to prove that he still possesses this “magic” to cultivate world-class doubles pairs. In an interview, Herry mentioned that another reason for taking the job is that Malaysia’s men’s doubles have more talent compared to other national teams, and he believes he can help Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, improve. Herry has signed a four-year contract with BAM, set to depart after the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Although BAM has not disclosed specific goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for Herry, the primary tasks for the Malaysian badminton team this year include achieving good results in the World Badminton Championships, All England Badminton Championships, and Sudirman Cup mixed team event.
