There are no luxury amenities, spacious rooms, or thoughtful supporting facilities here. The arrangements are so basic that athletes can’t help but miss the decent hotels of previous tournaments.
The dormitory-like accommodation feels like stepping back into the group dormitories of the late 20th century. The living spaces are tiny and cramped, leaving athletes struggling to stretch themselves in the narrow rooms, as if enduring an uphill battle. Photos shared by players show the official hotel lacks deluxe wardrobes and spacious lounge areas. Even the lockers are ridiculously small, barely able to hold personal belongings. Staying in such a shabby environment inevitably puts athletes in a low mood, which in turn affects their on-court performances.
The catering service is equally underwhelming. Apart from ordinary fast food, there are no delicacies or thoughtful warm meals to comfort the athletes — it is nothing more than a perfunctory make-do service.
In my opinion, although the tournament organizers seem to have invested in basic hardware facilities, they have obviously neglected service details, likely due to budget constraints. Only by optimizing both hardware construction and soft services can the Thomas & Uber Cup become a more flawless event. Improving accommodation environments, upgrading catering quality and strengthening logistical support are the key foundations for the long-term development of badminton.
