[Saba Sports News] The Premier League has
officially lodged a complaint against FIFA regarding the expansion of the new
Club World Cup to include 32 teams. The complaint alleges that FIFA failed to
engage in negotiations with the leagues regarding the expansion, prioritizing
its own interests over the concerns of the clubs. The intensive schedule
imposed by the expanded tournament is causing discomfort for the teams. As per
the previously announced schedule, Manchester City and Chelsea would have to
play up to seven games in a span of four weeks during the summer of 2025.
Furthermore, there is no plan in place for broadcasting rights or sponsorship
agreements, making it difficult to determine the commercial value of the
expanded Club World Cup. The editor believes that hasty expansion without
considering the best interests of the clubs may result in an excessive burden
on the teams and pose risks to the players’ health.
