[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, multiple Premier League clubs are increasingly dissatisfied with the summer series held in the U.S., and some may even call for its cancellation. Reports reveal that some Premier League club executives are angry about the need for league public funds to support the event and believe that non-participating clubs should not subsidize participating ones. It has also been disclosed that the first edition of the tournament two years ago resulted in a net loss of £5.4 million. Premier League insiders believe that this year’s event will also result in a loss, although it may be less than the previous one. This year, Manchester United, Everton, West Ham United, and Bournemouth traveled across the Atlantic to participate. The event aims to expand the international market and give American fans the chance to watch English teams live. Thanks to a larger market share, Manchester United is expected to be the most profitable among the participating teams, with around £7.5 million in revenue. The Premier League uses its existing “public” commercial partners to sponsor the event, although some think it is difficult to attract a title sponsor, the league strongly denies this. The event does collect fees from the host cities, but the shortfall is covered by the Premier League’s public fund pool. Some people now think this situation is unsustainable and plan to discuss it at the next shareholders’ meeting in September.
