Prithvi Shaw, an Indian batsman, will miss at least
three months of action due to a knee injury. This implies that he will
undoubtedly miss a significant portion of India’s domestic season in 2023–24,
which begins on October 1 with the Irani Cup in Rajkot.
Shaw sustained the injury while competing for
Northamptonshire versus Durham in the one-day championship game, and further
scans showed the damage was far worse than first thought.
Shaw sought advice from a surgeon in London at first,
then went back for another evaluation to the NCA in Bengaluru. The medical
staff is currently considering all of Shaw’s treatment choices, and surgery is
most likely the last option.
In order to determine if Shaw would be ready for the
Ranji Trophy in January, a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official said that
they would take a wait-and-see approach with him. They would also keep in touch
with the NCA. However, as of right moment, it appears certain that he won’t
participate in the limited-overs competitions starting on October 16 with the
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
At a time when his stocks were rising, Shaw’s injury
is a setback. At the time of his injury, he had 429 runs in four innings—the
most in the one-day competition—including a record-breaking 244 runs off 153
balls against Somerset.
Shaw had a difficult time for Delhi Capitals in the
IPL 2023, appearing in just eight of the 14 games where he scored 106 runs.
Shaw was last in the India team for the domestic T20Is against New Zealand in
February. In the end, he failed to make India’s second-tier team for the Asian
Games and the T20Is in Ireland.
Shaw participated in the West Zone for the Duleep
Trophy in July, and then he took a flight to the UK to play for Northants in
the one-day match. Prior to the 50-over matches, a brief red-ball stay was also
planned, but those plans fell through because of a holdup with his visa
application. As of now, Shaw has acknowledged a return to Northants for 2024,
where he’ll feature for the team across formats.
