[Saba Sports News] Responding to a fan’s query about his potential return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), renowned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin humorously suggested asking MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK. “Brother should ask from @mahi7781 only 😂,” Ashwin replied.
Ashwin has been with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2022. He and Dhoni, former India teammates, have shared a significant history in the IPL. Ashwin debuted in the league under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2008 with CSK, remaining with the team until 2015. They continued their collaboration in the 2016 season for Rising Pune Supergiant, a now-defunct team.
Ashwin missed the 2017 IPL season due to injury. In 2018, while Dhoni returned to a reactivated CSK after a two-year suspension, Ashwin played for other teams, including Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
As for Dhoni, he continues to lead CSK. Ashwin boasts an impressive IPL record, having played 197 matches, taken 171 wickets at an economy rate of 7.01, and scored 714 runs.
On the international front, Ashwin is one of the leading active players.
With 490 wickets in 95 Test matches, he is the second-highest wicket-taker among active spinners, just behind Nathan Lyon (509 wickets). As India gears up for a five-match series against England, Ashwin stands a chance to surpass Lyon and become the second Indian, after the legendary Anil Kumble, to claim over 500 Test wickets. He is just 10 wickets shy of this milestone.
