[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Real Betis has become the first Spanish football club to receive the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certification, ranking second in Europe after Porto. This top-tier certification officially recognizes the club’s excellence in the field of sustainable development. It requires the publication of a detailed public report to transparently showcase its environmental policies, goals, and achievements, with standards higher than the previously obtained ISO 14001 international certification. After a season-long effort, the club’s training base has implemented multiple innovative environmental measures, including: Water Recycling – A rainwater collection system has been established, using collected water for field irrigation, achieving water self-sufficiency; Material Innovation – Natural cork has replaced traditional rubber granules in artificial turf, eliminating microplastic pollution and effectively reducing field temperature while saving irrigation water; Energy Efficiency – Deployment of a remotely controllable intelligent lighting system; the main building adopts an eco-climatic design to reduce cooling energy consumption in summer; domestic hot water is entirely supplied by air-source heat pumps, completely eliminating natural gas; Green Transportation – All transportation within the base uses pure electric vehicles, equipped with charging stations and a self-sufficient photovoltaic power station; Eco-“Black Technology” – Introduction of goats and sheep to graze on grasslands, acting as “biological lawnmowers,” reducing mechanical pollution and providing natural fertilizer for the land.
