[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, the renovation project for Real Betis’s home stadium, the Benito Villamarin, has been approved. The report states that the Urban Planning Management Committee will give final approval for the planning related to the Villamarin stadium plot at its plenary session on September 18th. Real Betis submitted the plan on August 22nd. The club hopes to ensure the project progresses smoothly, aiming for completion in July 2027, after two seasons, and ready for use before the start of the 2027/2028 season. Currently, Real Betis is playing their matches at the Estadio de La Cartuja, while the Villamarin stadium awaits the demolition of stands by the construction company. Although preliminary work began on August 18th, the exact demolition date has not been set but is expected within this month. Two weeks ago, Real Betis announced the start of a new construction phase, using cranes to remove auxiliary panels on the exterior facade, which may cause parts of the stands to collapse. Additionally, Real Betis must address the issue of sparrows nesting in the stadium. Reportedly, the club will set up artificial nests near the stadium for the sparrows returning from migration from Africa. The main work at the Villamarin involves rebuilding the main stand. A plaza for fans to enjoy pre-match activities will be built next to the stadium, along with a 34-meter-high building containing a 150-room hotel, a sports clinic, gym, spa, and commercial area.
