[Saba Sports News] After Real Madrid’s away loss to Liverpool in the Champions League this week, some Spanish media pointed out that Real Madrid has missed out on millions in Champions League bonuses. If they were to play in the playoffs, their schedule would become even tougher. Now, after five rounds of the Champions League group stage (where teams earn €2.1 million for each win), Real Madrid has a record of 2 wins and 3 losses, placing them 24th out of 36 teams. They have already missed out on €6.3 million in bonuses, and if Real Madrid exits the Champions League early this season, their income from this competition could be €136 million less than budgeted. Moreover, if Real Madrid ultimately finishes between 9th and 24th in the Champions League group stage and must play two playoff matches to try to qualify, it will make their already tight schedule even more difficult. Notably, the two-legged Round of 16 playoff matches are scheduled for February 11/12 and February 18/19, which fall between three La Liga matches for Real Madrid, and they still have a rescheduled La Liga match against Valencia without a confirmed date.
