[Saba Sports News] McLaren team CEO Zak Brown claims that the team’s championship this season may hinge on the performance of Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. In the last nine races, Perez has not once outpaced his teammate Max Verstappen in either qualifying or the main race. His lackluster performance has allowed McLaren to close the gap with Red Bull in the team standings from 115 points to just 42. In the individual standings, Perez has only scored 129 points, ranking eighth, trailing his teammate Verstappen by a whopping 146 points. If the current trend continues, McLaren has a chance to win their first team championship since 2008. Before the summer break, there were even rumors about Perez being replaced early, highlighting how dire his situation is. In light of this, Red Bull is considering returning Perez to the initial version of the RB20 car, hoping it will help him regain his stability. Perez needs to make the most of the few opportunities left to prove his worth.
